Kids can be difficult to please, some love veggies, while
others refuse to eat them. But vegetables are full of nutrients and vitamins
that are vital for kids to eat so they stay healthy.
If you’re having trouble getting your kids to eat their
veggies, here are some helpful ways to change their mind as well as teach them
some life skills at the same time.
Grow your Own Veggies Together
You don’t need to have a massive field or yard to be able to
grow your own vegetables. You will be surprised to discover what wonderful
things you can grow in a pot on the kitchen windowsill. Start off small by growing
some herbs, such as chives, parsley, and mint or try your hand at the easy-to-grow veggies like peas, tomatoes and lettuce. By growing your own vegetables together
it’ll teach your kids about gardening and how yummy the rewards taste.

Turn Veggies into Something Else
Kids like fresh fruit juice or smoothies enough to drink
them without causing a fuss. Make your smoothies as fruity as you like, but add
some veggies like carrots or celery so your kids will have finished a healthy
juice without even noticing. For some more fun let them help you prepare the
juices or smoothies – they’ll love adding the ingredients themselves!

Create a Beautiful Plate
Veggies come in all shapes and sizes, and one fun way to get
your kids to try them is to make a fun game of it. Every week try putting a
variety of different coloured veggies on their plate in a fun shape or design, and
then taste each colour. Some tasty veggies include; orange sweet potato, purple
cabbage, yellow carrots, green beans and red peppers. Always serve small portions
of the vegetables so your kids don’t feel like they’re being forced to each a
massive serving.

Let Them Cook
It is important that you let your kids make supper at least
once a week – obviously you will help along the way! Get their creative juices
flowing and let them make something that they’ll enjoy making and eating. Some
ideas include: colourful pizzas with a variety of toppings (baby spinach,
roasted peppers, peas, asparagus and corn), baked potatoes stuffed with veggies and melted cheese, vegetarian wraps that incorporate a delicious vegetable hummus
or even a simple vegetable pasta dish. Not only will your kids love make their
own home cooked meals, but they’ll also learn basic cooking skills for later in
life.
