Don't worry if you’ve just started high school and you still
don’t have a whole group of awesome besties. It can take quite some time to
meet people, form a bond and eventually become friends. Instead of feeling bad
about yourself, you can use these tips to better your chances of making
friends...
1. Join a sports team
Even if you are not sporty, being part of a team is a great
way to make friends. There are few things that bond people more than playing
sports together on a team.
2. Get involved with
a band / theatre / choir
When people come together to play in a band, create a show, sing
together in a choir or come together in this kind of environment, it can bond
them for life.
3. Host study groups
Do you like to work alone? Well, you’re not going to make
many friends that way! Get to know the people in your class by creating a Facebook
group or coming together once a week to share answers and questions.
4. Start your own
club
If you have a love or passion for something, but there are
no current clubs at your school – why not make your own. Whether it be an amateur
cooking club, fishing club or knitting enthusiasts, there are bound to be other
people who share your interests.
5. Give a compliment
Don’t suck up, simply be friendly and say something nice. It
doesn’t have to be a big deal, something like “I love your shoes” or “How do
you do your hair like that? Can you show me?”
6. Invite someone for
a bite to eat
Most people are the type to wait for someone else to ask,
but go out of your comfort zone and ask someone to grab a bite to eat.
Everybody loves eating right?
7. Smile
Smiling is how you show others you are happy, enjoying
yourself and having fun. People will be drawn to you if you have a positive
energy and a genuine smile.
8. Connect online
It is 2017, so finding people online (Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, etc) is a great way to establish a friendship.
9. Be confident
How you see yourself is how others will see you! Be confident
in yourself and authentic and people will be drawn to you.
10. Bring snacks
Yes, this may be a form of bribing someone, but the way to
someone’s heart is through their stomach. Bring some yummy snacks to your study
group or before your big match and everyone will appreciate it.
Do you struggle to make friends? Always be yourself and
friendships will form without much effort!
