All children are
unique and brilliant; however this might not be how they are viewed at school.
Rather than seeing
their true potential, some kid’s schools brand them with a limiting label, like
the class clown, the jock, the slacker, the trouble maker, etc. Other students
may be classified as gifted or advanced and because of this they are given less
attention. While these labels don’t usually restrict students, they affect
their academic progress and attitudes toward learning.
Kids have an amazing
potential to succeed, but they need to be treated as individuals in school and
not grouped into one category or another.
Albert Einstein once
quoted “Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a
tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
As a parent, you may
be the first to see the true brilliance of your child and the first to be
frustrated when it is not recognised or supported. But, you have the power to
be involved in your child’s education and ensure that their true potential is
not stifled. To support your efforts, The Assisted Learning Centre have found a
number of articles that can help you unlock your child’s brilliance and move
forward to success:
