Children who have social issues may not
have as many playdates planned, however having friends over is a great way to
teach your child about politeness and following rules.
Before friends come over, make sure to make
a plan and go over all the activities they can do together. From there they can
take turns picking activities in order to avoid fighting and teach compromise.
Use these four strategies to improve your
child’s social development…
1 – Teach
them Empathy
Go through a few different scenarios by
asking your child how they think others might feel when certain things happen.
Use different situations each time.
2 – Explain
Personal Space
It’s important for children to know that
everyone has their own personal space. Practice acceptable ways to interact
with others that won’t make them feel uncomfortable.
3 –
Practice Social Introductions
Kids need to learn the proper way to start
a conversation with someone else, get someone’s attention or join in with another
group.
4 –
Revise taking turns
Dedicate at least an hour of the day to
sitting with your child, playing, to practice what it means to share, wait and
take turns.
Not all kids have the same social skills,
so it’s important to practice and teach your child about what is right and
wrong so they know how to handle any situation.
