Underage drinking is one of the most common
problems that teenagers face in this day and age. It is also unfortunate that
many parents do not realise how dangerous alcohol can be for their kids.
Every year, thousands of underage teens die
because of drinking, some of the reasons why include alcohol poisoning, car
crashes, homicides, suicides and so much more.
While you may believe that your child is an
angel and they’ll never drink, it is important to look out for the warning
signs and signals!
Teenagers who are planning a party with
friends will usually show these signals:
- Carrying a backpack or sports bag which
they may be using to transport alcohol.
- Whispers over the phone and obvious chats about a gathering on social media.
- Evading any questions you ask about what their plans for the evening are.
- Asking to sleep over at a friend’s house.

If you spot any of these signals, talk to
your teen about your suspicions, otherwise you can also check with your teen’s
friend’s parents.
When your teen comes home from a friend’s
house or a party, look out for some of the obvious signs that they may have
consumed alcohol:
- Low inhibitions
- Inability to concentrate
- Slow reflexes and reaction time
- No coordination
- Slurred speech
