For young children, Christmas is a magical time filled with
fun and presents, but for teens it can be more about time-off from school, sulking
and getting annoyed when grandma kisses them.
The Christmas magic shouldn’t be over just because they’re
getting older! You can still have fun with your teens over the Christmas
holidays.
Here’s how you can bring the festive spark back into your
teens life...
Decorating – Your
teen may not admit it, but they probably really enjoy decorating the house for
Christmas. Instead of shouting orders at them, give them the responsibility of
decorating and you can play the corny Christmas tunes!
Baking – You’re
never too old to enjoy tasty baked goods. Plan an afternoon of baking delicious
Christmas treats, like Christmas
cake, mince
pies or reindeer
cookies. Then pretty them up and give them out as gifts or keep them for
Christmas day snacks.
Donating – Christmas isn’t all about new clothes and fancy games; it’s also about giving to others! A great way to get your teen to think about others is to go through their cupboard together and donate their old clothes that don’t fit anymore.
Local Attractions –
Drive around town with your teen and look at some of the beautiful Christmas
decorations and displays. Or free up your afternoon to visit a great Christmas
market – Use this guide to find the markets in Cape Town https://capemarkets.co.za/market-calendar/action~stream/request_format~html/
Plan a Party – Your teen might not be excited at first, but give them a small budget and take a trip to the mall. Once they start inviting their friends and setting up the snacks and decorations, they’ll love the idea of getting together with their friends. If having a party at your home is not an option, consider contacting The Assisted Learning Centre and hiring out their hall. It is the perfect size for Christmas parties and your teen will be thrilled to be able to invite more friends!
Movie Marathon –
The typical Christmas movie can be quite corny and boring, especially for a
teenager. Let them choose the movies, something exciting, like The Lord of the
Rings trilogy or the Matrix.
The festive season doesn’t have to be a boring time for your
teen, get them involved and they’ll appreciate it, even though they’ll never
admit it!
