Whether you daughter is having a slumber party for her birthday, or she simply invited a friend over for the weekend – make sure you have plenty of fun activities planned to keep them busy as well as safe.

Why not try out some of these ideas for a fun overnight party…

* Organise a make-your-own pizza station. Provide all the different ingredients and they can create their own pizza according to their own tastes. Other make-your-own meals could include a taco bar, ice cream sundaes and nachos.

* Get them to work on a project together. Get them busy doing some DIY crafts, such as making their own T-shirts, pillow cases or jewellery. Other great projects include making bath scrubs and scented candles.

* Girls enjoy being girly, so let them give each other homemade facials, paint their nails and style their hair. They can also create crafts to take home afterwards, like bath salts and friendship bracelets.

* Board games are always a hit at a sleepover party! Offer a few choices, like cards, Scrabble, Monopoly, UNO, Cluedo and Jenga.

* Consider having a braai or bonfire outside if it’s a nice night. The kids can roast marshmallows on the fire and tell ghost stories until bed time. It might even be fun for them to pitch a tent in the backyard and spend the night camping.

* Rent out some chick flicks for the girls, otherwise have them choose a theme and then have a movie marathon. Be sure to pop some popcorn and buy some yummy snacks and fizzy drinks.

* No one is ever too old to make a blanket fort! Provide the blankets, sheets and pillows and let the kids make their own fort, then let them set up beds inside and sleep there for the night.
