You’ve spent the evening making supper and the first
thing your child says is, “I’m not eating that!”
Children who are picky eaters are hard to
please, so it’s best to get creative in the kitchen. Try out these 5 easy ways
to get your picky eater to gobble up their entire meal every time…
Dry
out fruits & veggies – Get out the food
dehydrator or use the oven to dry out fresh fruits and veggies. Drying out your
food means all the moisture is removed, turning it into something new and
delicious.
Try out apple slices, strawberries, kiwis, bananas and even
green beans that turn into crunchy sticks perfect for dipping!
Dip
and freeze fruit – Does your child throw a tantrum
when they see fresh fruit? Disguise different fruits with a delicious coating
for snack time.
Cut up bite-sized pieces of fruit such as
apples, pineapples, bananas, grapes, berries, kiwis, etc. and dip each one into
thick yoghurt or dark chocolate - you can also then dip them in crushed nuts. Place the dipped fruit into the freezer for
about 20 minutes and you’ve got a cool treat.
Make
juices or smoothies – Juicing or blending up fresh
produce to make a yummy, colourful smoothie are healthy ways to get your child to get the
right amount of fruit and veggies into their day.
When your child asks for a glass of something
yummy, juice apples, carrots and lemon and you’ll be surprised at how perfect
the combination is! A yummy idea for a smoothie they’ll love is frozen
strawberries and a banana, plain yoghurt and chocolate milk.
Add veggies to pizza – No child can say no
to pizza! So, next time you’re having a homemade pizza night, sneak some extra
vegetables in and your picky eater won’t even realise they’re gobbling them up.
Finely cut your veggies such as bell
peppers, spinach, olives, onions, mushrooms, etc. and layer them on the pizza
base before you add the cheese and meats – delicious and healthy.
Mix it up – When your child just doesn’t want
to eat anything, it’s time to switch up the presentation. Think outside the box
and make mealtime anything but boring.
Cut sandwiches into different shapes using
cookie cutters, make funny faces on their pancakes and turn fork foods into
finger foods. There are so many different things you can do to get your picky
eater to eat their meals.
